The hymn titled ‘Blessed Assurance’ was written by Fanny Crosby, and the music was composed by her dear friend Phoebe Palmer Knapp (Mrs. Joseph).

‘Blessed Assurance’ is a popular gospel hymn of the late nineteenth century. It is truly evangelical and has an emotional appeal that comes from its tune and the words of the hymn.

It’s a testimonial hymn of praise to Christ for His work of redemption, for the Spirit’s work of sanctification, and for the joy of serving Jesus.

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine
O what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood

“It seemed to me one of the sweetest I had heard for a long time. She asked me what it said. I replied, ‘Blessed assurance.’ I felt while bringing the words and tones together that the air and the hymn were intended for each other.” – from Fanny Crosby’s Memories.

Crosby’s text and Knapp’s tune were published in John R. Sweney’s Gems of Praise in 1873. It became prominent after being featured in Billy Graham Crusades.

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blessed
Watching and waiting, looking above
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love

As Sounds Like Reign sings this beautiful hymn today, we are blessed to listen to it and feel roused in our spirit with its spiritual words and meaningful tune.

Verse of the Day

“[Jesus Predicts His Death a Third Time] Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!””

Matthew 20: 17-19
