Two Barbers Run Out of Shop to Save a Toddler Wandering into Traffic

Barbers in East Hartford, Connecticut are being celebrated as heroes for their quick action in rescuing a toddler from busy street traffic.

Osvaldo Lugo and Rafael Santana, of LookSharp Barbershop, noticed the child wandering into danger while they were at work and didn’t hesitate to intervene.

The East Hartford Police Department praised their efforts in a heartfelt Facebook post: “Heroic Barbers to the Rescue! Today, we want to give a massive shoutout to the quick-thinking and brave duo, Osvaldo Lugo and Rafael Santana. Their swift action saved a little toddler who had escaped from his mother and started moving towards traffic on Main Street. Thanks to them, a potential tragedy was averted, and a family remains whole. We’re incredibly grateful for these everyday heroes among us!”

Lugo, still impacted by the events, shared the security camera footage on his Instagram. Reflecting on the incident, he said, “The mom lost track for one quick second. It happens. It’s happened to me before.”

His colleague, Santana, first spotted the toddler from the barbershop window. Lugo recalls the moment vividly: “When he mentioned seeing a child I was concerned. Once I looked and saw the top of the baby’s head, the only thought in my head was run after her.” Their timely intervention prevented a likely disaster.

Later, the barbers were able to locate the child’s mother at a nearby bus stop. “The reunion was silent and meaningful,” Lugo described. “The mother looked at me with embarrassment but at the same time thankful.”

The police department continued to express gratitude, “We’re incredibly grateful for these everyday heroes among us!”

In a profound reflection, Lugo shared, “Being labeled a hero—it’s unreal. Doing the right thing when nobody’s looking rather than turning [your] attention away. Sometimes we rely on others to get things done when all along I can be the one getting it done if I believe in myself. So with all that said, if you see something don’t only say something, do something!”

As we contemplate this story, we recognize the profound reminder that God often places us precisely where we need to be to serve His purpose and protect His little ones. Together, let us always be ready to act courageously and selflessly, honoring the Lord through our deeds.
