Former US President Barack Obama surprised students at Parkside Academy in Chicago by visiting them as ‘Skinny Santa.’ He brought gifts and read a story to the kids, sharing a special Christmas moment with them.
Barack Obama, dressed in a Santa hat, walked into Parkside Community Academy near where the Obama Presidential Center will be built. The kids, excited to see him, listened as he introduced himself as “Skinny Santa.” Obama’s visit was simple but full of joy. He said, “I could not have had more fun spreading a little Christmas cheer and getting some back from these 3 and 4-year-olds.” He talked about the importance of giving during the holidays and being part of a community that helps each other.
Obama read a book to the children called “Santa’s Gotta Go” by Derrick Barnes. It’s a funny story about the challenges a family faces when Santa Claus unexpectedly becomes their houseguest.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Obama didn’t come empty-handed. He brought toys for the 20 pre-kindergarten students in the classroom, and ensured every student at the school received winter accessories.
Debra Gardner, a teacher at Parkside, said about Obama’s visit, “For him to take the time to come here out of his busy schedule to read a book, it just shows that he is still a leader.” The visit was a kind gesture that brought happiness to the students and teachers.
