The Bible tells us that we have to care for the poor, feed the hungry, as Psalms 146:7 says, “He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry.” To be a real Christian we have to feed the hungry and clothe the naked.

One lady from San Diego, California, is living by this standard, Debra Davis, or Auntie Debra works in the cafeteria at Hoover High School where she serves students with a smile. But after her school hours, she uses her cooking skills elsewhere.

She told Steve Harvey, “I get up (at) 3:30 in the morning and I prepare the food and everything and I put it in the car … I go to work, and then when I get off of work I go feed the homeless from say 1 o’clock to like 6 o’clock.” She says she does this only seeking her “reward in Heaven.”

Thanks to some auto shop students who refurbished a car for her, she now delivers her food in style in a 2014 Mazda3 instead of her ’76 Chevy Malibu.

A GoFundMe campaign launched for her has managed to raise $27K which also landed an interview with Steve Harvey. In her interview she told Harvey, “The Bible says if I love the Lord, I’ll feed His people,” and added, “So I’m just doing what the Lord asked me to do. I’m just a servant.”

Steve Harvey, along with Sam’s Club, surprised Davis with a check for $5,000 and said while presenting it to her, “We already know you’re going to do the right thing with it.”

Auntie Debra is a wonderful example of living the word of God daily, come let us also do something for the Lord in this new year.

Verse of the Day

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”
