A small act of patriotism by an Amazon delivery driver has gone viral after a Michigan family shared the video on social media. Delawrence Jones, the driver, was captured by the family’s Ring doorbell camera as he stopped to straighten and salute their American flag, which had become twisted by the wind around the flagpole, on his way back to his van after delivering a package. The video, shared by Tom and Jenni Dexter, brought them to tears and has since been viewed by many others.
Jones, who was interviewed by “Fox and Friends” along with the Dexters, explained that the gesture was “just me being me” and displaying his pride in and love for his country. Tom and Jenni, who have 11 family members who have served in the military, were especially touched by Jones’ act of respect to the flag, the family, and the country.
Jenni said, “It was just a little thing that he did, but it was huge. And if we can all do little things like this — like Delawrence did — I think it could make a difference.”
Tom, who saw the event from down the street as he approached his house, said that he got choked up when he saw Jones stop to honor the flag. He added that he reviewed the doorbell camera footage to make sure he had really seen what he had witnessed.
“when I saw what he was doing … I kinda got a little choked up. … He took the time to honor the flag, honor the country”, Tom said.
Jenni explained that the gesture of Jones was extra special to her as she has 11 family members who have served in the military. The video touched her heart and brought tears to her eyes and when she found Jones online, she was quick to send him a message of gratitude for what he did.
“We can feel it in the country that patriotism is down,” she said. “It was just a little thing that he did, but it was huge.
The Dexters’ video has received widespread attention and praise, with many people saying that Jones’ act of kindness and respect is an inspiration to others and a powerful reminder that love for one’s country and respect for its symbols can still be found in everyday people.
