Although he was 75 years old at that moment, he decided to obey the word of God. He took his nephew Lot with him as he departed out of Haran, trusting and believing not knowing where he was going but according to the word of God.

In Genesis 12 v1:4 1“Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee. 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing. 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. 4 So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.”

Here are 3 important lessons we can learn from their lives:

1) Obedience to God’s word brings blessing

When we obey the word of God, His blessings will rest upon our lives. This is because with Him all things are possible, He can make the impossible possible in our lives. He is not a man that he should lie.

In Abraham’s life, God fulfilled His promises towards him and made him so great that he became the father of all nations and blessed him beyond measure.

2) When we have faith in His Word, We will accomplish the impossible

An outstanding faith in God’s word will definitely help us in every area of our lives, to accomplish His purpose for us. He believed in God and it was counted for him as righteousness.

He had faith in God’s words, obeying whatever He told him to do. When he was put to test to sacrifice his son, which was a difficult thing for anyone to do, still because of the faith he had in God, he did not withhold his son from God. Although He provided the lamb of sacrifice for him. It went a long way to prove that he was faithful to His word.

Abraham had faith in God’s words that he will have a child of his own, even at old age when it is impossible for him to have any child at that age but he believed in God’s word.

3). Don’t work by sight but through the spirit

Lot decided to work by sight, he became very wealthy following Abraham knowing that the blessings of God is upon his life, because he was with Abraham, he received all the blessings according to the promises of God.

When there is a dispute between their workers, he divided the portions of the land into two and told Lot to choose where he wants to go. Lot looking at the greener pasture according to his own sight choose Sodom and Gomorrah.

Likewise in our lives today, we should be careful about the kind of decisions that we make as we are influenced by the things of this world, don’t make decisions by sight but by the spirit of God. Working by sight will bring distortion to our lives.
