An 89-year-old Weber County man became popular through TikTok after a family came forward to bless him with a huge tip of $12,000.
When ordering from Papa John’s in Roy, members of the Valdez family prefer their pizza to be delivered only by Derlin Newey. According to reports, he always delivers orders with the same line: “Hello, are you looking for pizza?”
The Valdezes are TikTok stars and have a following of 53,000 viewers. They frequently share videos of Newey’s deliveries to their popular TikTok page, where Carlos Valdez reportedly decided to raise money for the man and gathered $12,069 from their followers.
So when the Valdezes presented the cheque to Newey, and told him that it was from the TikTok community, and told the Papa John’s employee what TikTok was, Newey teared up and repeatedly said he couldn’t believe what was happening.
This is another example of the Venmo Challenge, where people on social media ask their followers to donate money to a Venmo account and once a big amount is collected, the owner presents it to a service industry worker.
